Neven Melek is a dedicated community‑focused professional with extensive experience supporting newcomers, refugees, and diverse cultural communities in Ottawa. With a background in immigration case management, community services, and legal advocacy, she brings a strong commitment to helping individuals navigate complex systems and access essential resources. Neven has worked in legal offices assisting immigration lawyers with client intake, document preparation, and case management, and has supported community organizations such as CCI Ottawa and the Centertown Community Association through volunteer engagement and public‑facing roles.
Before settling in Canada, Neven served in senior roles at the Doha Centre for Media Freedom (which was a non-profit organization that works for media freedom and capacity building for journalists in the Middle East and worldwide) leading international partnerships, advocacy campaigns, and media literacy initiatives. She also practiced law in Cairo, specializing in human rights and appeals cases. Neven is recognized for her compassion, professionalism, and dedication to empowering marginalized communities.

Engaged in strategic discussions with the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in New York to develop collaborative initiatives supporting journalist protection and media freedom.
