Police allegedly torture three reporters in Sindh
GHOTKI—Sindh police allegedly tortured three local journalists based in Mirpur Mathello in Ghokti district.
The journalists were making a news report on the illegal private torture cells managed by local police.
The journalists—Latif Veesar, Barkat Mirani, and Khalid Veesar—alleged that a police party tortured them badly and left them at an abandoned place in critical condition. Later, the injured reporters were shifted to DHQ Hospital, Mirpur Mathello, for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, local journalists staged a sit-in outside the SSP office in Ghotki to show solidarity with the victims.
SSP Umar Tufail negotiated with the protesters and arrested the policemen accused of mistreating reporters. The journalists finally ended their protest after the office assured them of a probe into the incident.
SHO Khalid Memon was suspended following this incident.
