HRCP awards I. A. Rehman Research Grant to Razeshta Sethna
LAHORE—The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has announced awarding the I.A. Rehman Research Grant for 2021 to journalist and editor Razeshta Sethna.
“We are delighted to announce that freelance journalist and editor Razeshta Sethna has been awarded the I. A. Rehman Research Grant for 2021,” HRCP stated in a tweet.
According to HRCP, she will be studying the state of Pakistan’s contemporary media landscape, focusing on curbs on freedom of expression. Her research will be published and disseminated by HRCP.
Based on the recommendation of an independent jury of senior academics and human rights defenders, HRCP is committed to awarding one grant of Rs350,000 to an academic, journalist, or human rights defender/professional for original research carried out in any area of human rights (civil, political, economic, social, cultural, or environmental) in Pakistan. The grant is open to Pakistani citizens or foreign nationality holders of Pakistani heritage.
Instituted to honor late I.A. Rehman, a veteran journalist, human rights champion, and honorary spokesperson of HRCP, this grant is intended to facilitate original research carried out in any area of human rights in Pakistan.
