RMNP Condemns Raid on Daily Baithak Office and Harassment of Editorial Staff
Calls for Transparent Inquiry, Action Against Responsible Officials, and Withdrawal of Notices Issued to the Newspaper
The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) has strongly condemned the raid conducted by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on the office of the Multan-based daily newspaper Daily Baithak, the seizure of computer equipment, and the alleged harassment of members of its editorial staff. RMNP has demanded strict action against the officials involved in the incident.
In a statement issued by RMNP, the organization described the NCCIA’s action against a newspaper engaged in investigative journalism as a serious attack on press freedom. RMNP stated that such coercive and unlawful actions against media organizations are unacceptable in any democratic and civilized society.
The statement further noted that the entry of officials into the newspaper’s office, the harassment of editorial personnel, and the confiscation of computers constitute unacceptable and unlawful measures that undermine the independence of the press and the free flow of information.
RMNP has called upon the Government of Pakistan to order a transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident, take strict action against all officials found responsible, and withdraw the notices issued to the management of Daily Baithak.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to defending media freedom and urged the authorities to ensure that journalists and media institutions can perform their professional duties without intimidation or interference.
