Taliban to establish a media committee
KABUL—The Taliban have announced to establish a committee that will deal with all issues related to journalists and the media community, according to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a tweet.
The media committee will include a representative from the cultural commission, a representative from the Federation of Journalists & Media Institutions, and an officer from the Kabul police, BBC reported. The committee will resolve the issues that journalists are currently facing in Afghanistan.
Recently, the deputy general secretary of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Jeremy Dear, has shown concerns that media workers are going through an “incredibly challenging time” after the Taliban had seized power in Afghanistan. Journalists are receiving threats, and female reporters are being prevented from working, he added. Reportedly, many media outlets have been closed in Afghanistan.
