Supreme Court grants bail to Dr. Shahid Masood

shahid masoodISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to prominent political analyst Dr. Shahid Masood in a case of alleged embezzlement of Rs38million during his tenure as the head of Pakistan Television.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested him on November 23 after the Islamabad High Court dismissed his pre-arrest bail.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmed accepted Masood’s bail application, according to Dawn.
The paper said that Masood stated in his appeal that he is a “blunt” analyst and critic of government policies, due to which he has been “a target of governmental institutions.”
He accused the FIA of harassing him and not being able to come up with any proof against him.
Masood allegedly entered into a contract with a fake company for earning media rights from the Pakistan Cricket Board. As a result of this, PTV reportedly suffered a financial loss of Rs38 million.
Masood is the president of Airwaves Media Group that runs NewsOne Television, TVOne, Waseeb, and RadioOne.
