Slain journalist Hayatullah’s family seeks judicial commission’s findings
PESHAWAR—The family of slain journalist Hayatullah Khan has moved the Peshawar High Court (PHC), seeking the release of a judicial commission’s findings into his murder.
Khan was the first journalist who collected the scattered pieces of a drone missile in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan, photographed them, and published news in an Urdu newspaper.
His body was found in December 2006 in village Khushalli Torikhel Wazir in North Waziristan.
According to the petition shared by Freedom Network on Twitter, five members of the deceased journalist’s family, and senior journalists like Hamid Mir, Iqbal Khattak, and Shamim Shahid had recorded their statements before the inquiry commission headed by Justice Muhammad Raza Khan of PHC to probe the murder.
However, the report of the inquiry commission is still a mystery, although it was submitted to the Supreme of Pakistan, and copies also provided to the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Interior Ministry.
The petitioner, real brother of the late journalist, approached PHC to get a copy of the inquiry report of the commission, which has been denied to them for more than ten years.
