Senior journalist Pir Sufaid Shah passes away
PESHAWAR: Senior journalist and the founding editor of Peshawar’s Daily Wahdat, Pir Syed Sufaid Shah Hamdard, passed away on Tuesday after a protracted illness.
Known as the father of Pashto journalism, Hamdard had been bed-ridden for long and was admitted to a local hospital three weeks ago and passed away on Tuesday.
His funeral prayers will be offered on Wednesday (today) in Alam Bagh, Warsak.
Regarded as a journalism academy in itself, Hamdard was amongst the senior-most journalists of the country with a career spanning over 70 years. He was also awarded pride of performance for his dedication and professionalism.
Hamdard had dedicated his life to journalism and many of his students and adherents, who started a career in journalism in Daily Wahdat, are currently working in leading newspapers and media channels of the country.
He also served as a member and convener of the All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and played a prominent role in the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE).
