PFUJ announces countrywide protests on January 5
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced its third stage of countrywide protests on January 5 to highlight the problems faced by the media industry, journalist community, and workers.
President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi said that the worsening situation demands that journalists should continue their struggle to safeguard their jobs, timely payment of salaries, and clearance of pending dues apart from freedom of the press which is linked with the progress of the media industry and creation of more job opportunities.
The PFUJ leadership condemned the ruthless and insensitive attitude of the Government of Pakistan and owners and managers of media houses who have visibly joined hands for damaging the Industry and victimizing journalists and media workers.
Fifteen thousand journalists and media workers have been made jobless in the country, and 749 daily wage employees of Radio Pakistan retrenched apart from non-payment of dues to Pakistan Television employees since 2018.
PFUJ urged all the unions of journalists, trade unions, civil society, and CBAs of all the organizations to join hands against the continued high handedness of the government of Pakistan, owners, management of media houses, Radio Pakistan, and PTV, saying enough is enough.
