Behind bars: NAB arrests Mir Shakil in land scam

Karachi) The National Accountability Bureau has arrested the owner of a media group over corrupt practices, media reported on Thursday.

According to details, the owner of Jang Group Mir Shakil-Ur-Rehman has been detained by NAB for his involvement in purchasing 54 Kanal Land in Lahore’s Johar Town area during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif as Punjab chief minister in 1986. The land was reportedly acquired in violation of the rules.

Mir Shakil visited the NAB Lahore office today for investigation but he could not provide satisfactory answers to NAB officials’ questions.

During investigation, Mir Shakil said that he purchased the land from a private owner and he possessed the evidence of the same. However, the NAB officials arrested Mir Shakil after he failed to furnish the evidence.

NAB will produce Rahman in front of an accountability court tomorrow for his physical remand.

It was the second time when NAB summoned Mir Shakil for questioning in the land scam. Meanwhile, NAB officials said Mir Shakil was arrested as there were fears he would escape from the country to avoid investigation.
