PEMRA issued 618 show-cause notices, warnings to TV channels

PEMRA) report (2015-18) reveals that 65 percent of total viewers in Pakistan watch cable TV.
Another 25 percent are terrestrial viewers with only 9 percent having access to media through satellite dishes.
The report says that the regulator has so far issued 88 licenses for indigenous satellite TV among which 37 licenses are for entertainment category, 26 for news and current affairs, and 18 for the regional category.
PEMRA issued 618 show cause notices and warnings to TV channels that violated the code of conduct 2015. Twenty-five programs/advertisements were banned, and licenses of 13 TV channels suspended, and fines of Rs106.53 million imposed.
