One in five Pakistanis reads a newspaper: survey
ISLAMABAD — Only one in five Pakistanis say they read a newspaper, according to a survey by Gilani Research Foundation (GRF).
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Do you read the newspaper?”
In response, only 19 percent said yes, while 76 percent claimed they do not read the newspaper. Only 5 percent said they did not know/did not wish to respond.
According to GRF, this question was asked over 16 years, and results show that newspaper readership has decreased by 5 percent in the last decade. This decrease may be attributed to the increase in social media usage with the ease of access to information using technology.
All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) has listed 463 publications as its members. These include dailies, weeklies, fortnightlies, and monthlies.
