Journalists hold rally for progress in Aziz Memon murder case
SUKKUR: Journalists along with activists of political parties and nationalist groups took out a rally in Jacobabad on Wednesday against a lack of progress in the prosecution of suspected killers of Naushahro Feroze journalist Aziz Memon.
The body of senior journalist Aziz Memon was found floating in a canal in Mehrabpur on Feb 16.
The protesters, including office-bearers and members of the local press club, marched through various roads raising slogans against the killers and police. They demanded arrest of “prime suspects” in the case.
After reaching DC Chowk, the protesters held a sit-in and spoke to officials of the district administration.
Jacobabad Press Club president Nawaz Solangi, journalist Hyder Magsi, Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) district president Nadeem Qureshi, Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) activists Nizam Mastoi, Hazoor Bux Mugheri, Mohammad Ali Mirani and others spoke to the protesters and said that the Naushahro Feroze SSP was doing nothing to take the culprits to task. They deplored that the police officer was busy in just photo sessions. They said failure of the police in arresting the main suspects and making progress in further investigation was creating unrest among the journalist community across the country.
