Journalist shot dead by ‘rivals’

KASUR:A young local journalist was shot dead allegedly by his rivals on Halla Road on Saturday.

Following the killing, scores of journalists, villagers and the victim’s relatives blocked the road near Mallanwala bypass by placing the body on the road. They kept Multan Road blocked for traffic for three hours.

The protesters also allegedly manhandled Pattoki Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ikram Khan when he reached the spot to hold a dialogue. However, the officer left the scene.

The protesters alleged that victim Ghulam Rasool, his friends and family had repeatedly complained to the DSP that a man, Arshad, wanted to kill Rasool, but in vain.

The suspect along with his accomplices allegedly gunned down Rasool on Halla Road and escaped.

The protesters shouted slogans against the police and demanded the killers be arrested. They also refused to clear the road for traffic.

District Police Officer Imran Kishwar reached Pattoki and assured the protesters of justice upon which they dispersed peacefully.

Police shifted Rasool’s body to Pattoki THQ Hospital for autopsy and started an investigation.

This is the second killing of a journalist in the past few months.

Earlier, the body of a journalist was found hanging at the rice sheller owned by a local politician.
