Journalist Abdul  Wahid Raisani shot dead in Quetta,Pakistan

Quetta:  Abdul Wahid Raisani, a sub-editor of Daily Azadi  shot dead during an alleged robbery bid in the bank colony area of the Balochistan capital on  24th April 2021(Saturday) evening. He is the second journalist who was killed during this month in Pakistan.

According to details, Abdul Wahid Raisani was going  home from the newspaper’s office yesterday evening when robbers intercepted him and tried to snatch his motorcycle near Qambrani road. On his resistance, robbers fired shots, one of which struck Raisani’s chest .On receiving the information, Rescue team rushed the scene and removed Raisani to hospital where he passed away. Police have started the investigation but no arrest has been made so far. Slain journalist’s family denied giving a statement.

The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) has strongly condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for Raisani’s death.

Earlier this week, senior journalist and former chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA), Absar Alam, was shot in Islamabad.

Similarly this month, a local journalist, Waseem Alam, was shot dead by unidentified persons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak. He was returning home on his motorcycle when he was targeted. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where doctors announced his death.

Ten journalists including a female TV talk show host  were murdered in Pakistan in 2020 according to the monitoring of the Rural Media Network Pakistan.
