Editor Waseem Alam shot dead in Karak,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
KaraK: A local journalist was shot dead by unidentified persons on Saturday evening (April 10,2021)in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkwa.Slain journalist identified as Waseem Alam was the joint editor of local newspaper, Sada-e-lawaghir.
Karak police station have registered a murder case against unknown persons on the report of slain journalist’s mother.According to police report , ill-fated journalist Alam was returning home on his motorcycle when he was targeted near the Batani Khel Government School. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police have started the investigations and claimed that there was no clue so far that Waseem Alam was gunned down for his journalistic work. It has been reported that slain journalist’s father was not present at the hospital and he did not even attend his son’s funeral. His father had been living with relatives and had parted ways with his own family for some time. The journalist’s mother has, however, not named anyone as a suspect in the FIR,while the widow and brother of the slain journalist said that Waseem Alam never mentioned any kind of threat nor did he have any enmity with anyone.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Mahmood Khan has condemned the murder of the journalist Waseem Alam in Karak.In a statement in Peshawar on Sunday, he directed the concerned authorities to arrest the culprits at the earliest. Mahmood Khan prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile Rural Media Network Pakistan has condemned the brutal murder of journalist Waseem Akram and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar urged Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to announce compensation to the victims family.
Pakistan is considered one of the most dangerous places for journalists , with 128 having been killed in the country in the last two decades, according to the Rural Media Network Pakistan. 10 journalists were murdered in 2020 as per RMNP monitoring.
