Grenade attack on ARY News office, one injured
ISLAMABAD – Unidentified attackers hurled a hand grenade on the Islamabad office of local television channel, ARY News, on Wednesday evening, injuring a channel staffer.
According to ARY News, the attackers also opened fire at the office, injuring a non-linear editor working for the news channel. In December last year, a similar attack outside another news channel, Dunya News’ Faisalabad bureau, had left three of the channel’s employees injured.
While in November, unidentified gunmen had attacked a Dawn News Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) van in the Essa Nagri area of Karachi, leaving one staffer injured.
The attack was widely condemned by all sections of society and journalist organisations had announced protests.
PM condemns attack.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday strongly condemned an attack on ARY TV channel office.
The Prime Minister directed the Inspector General of Police and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to instantly reach the office of ARY and ensure all necessary measures to apprehend the culprits of this sad incident.
The Prime Minister also directed the concerned authorities for provision of adequate security to the employees of ARY TV channel
