Dr. Saadia Kamal elected President of PFUJ-Workers
A historic milestone for Pakistani journalism
KARACHI— In a landmark election held during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Karachi, journalist and scholar Dr. Saadia Kamal was elected as the President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ-Workers). This momentous achievement makes her the first female president of PFUJ Workers, underscoring her exceptional contributions to journalism and her unwavering commitment to ethical reporting.
Dr. Saadia’s election is a testament to her years of tireless work and selfless service to the journalistic community. With a Ph.D. focused on Khwaja Ghulam Farid, Dr. Saadia embodies a rich blend of knowledge, professional experience, and leadership. She has served as the senior vice president of the National Press Club Islamabad twice and held the position of acting president of the National Press Club. Furthermore, she is a member of several prestigious boards and committees, including the Board of Governors of the Academy of Letters Pakistan and the Educational Media Advisor for Allama Iqbal Open University.
Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Saadia is the chairperson of the Saraiki Literary Academy, the founder of the Thinkers Journalists Forum, and the initiator of the Bedar Group at the National Press Club Islamabad. Her work as the Indus Cultural Forum Islamabad coordinator reflects her dedication to promoting Pakistani culture.
Dr. Saadia has played a pivotal role in media training both within Pakistan and internationally. She has conducted workshops on ethical journalism and media codes of conduct across various press clubs and mass communication departments, particularly in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, the Seraiki Belt, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Internationally, she has facilitated media workshops in the United States, Turkey, India, Azerbaijan, Dubai, and Nepal, where she also conducted a month-long leadership course titled “Sangat” attended by women from ten countries.
Currently serving as the in-charge of the Saraiki News Service at APP, Dr. Saadia is also recognized as Radio Pakistan’s first Saraiki newscaster and has received multiple media awards for her contributions to the field.
Dr. Saadia’s election as the PFUJ Workers’ president marks a significant milestone for the journalistic community in Pakistan. Her leadership is expected to invigorate efforts to address the challenges faced by Pakistani journalists and promote press freedom and ethics.
The meeting was hosted by the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) Workers, with enthusiastic participation from FEC members from across the country, who actively engaged in every agenda item. Many members from the Sindh Union of Journalists and Korangi Press Club were also present.
