RMNP District Correspondents Skills Development Workshop

Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) organised one day” District Correspondents Skills Development  Workshop in collaboration with Daily Nawa-I-AhmedpurSharqia & Media Club .It was held in the premises of Punjab college AhmedpurEast on 25th December 2023 , and attended by twenty nine correspondents of print and electronic media hailing from different areas.

Former Director Information Government of Punjab Nazir Khalid and President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar acted as resource persons. Ex-Director Information Department Nazir Khalid ran three sessions and covered the following topics, 1) Basics of journalism,2) Techniques of  information and gatherings,3)The art of interviewing and press conference,4)Columns writing ,5) Ethics of journalism. During practical exercise, participants were given a news story to point out the flaws and mistakes. Participants were asked to edit the news and write their comments about the story. This interaction heightened their interest, and all the participants took lively part in discussion

Resource Persons Former Director Information Government Punjab Nazir Khalid and President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar lecturing in workshop.

Resource person Ehsan Ahmed Sehar while lecturing stated that the aim of this training is to reinforce the existing network of journalists to monitor and defend freedom of expression. He informed the participants how to deal with the situations of violation of freedom of press not merely in their area but also elsewhere in the country. He taught participants how to start or join an ongoing provincial or national campaign to draw government and public attention to the issues at hand. Participants learnt the techniques of designing action alerts. During the training Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) distributed its “Basic Journalism Training Manual” and “UNESCO Resource Material for Journalists in Conflict” among all participants.

Certificate ceremony was held in the evening in which Chairman Ubqari Media Group Muhammad Tariq Mehmood Chughtai was the chief guest. He is one leading moderate religious scholar having vast following in the country and abroad working for Inter-faith harmony nowadays. Journalists in South Punjab usually threatened by religious extremists, so a closed session was conducted with him where RMNP team briefed him about the difficulties of rural journalists which they are facing while covering religious congregations, rallies and public meetings. Muhammad Tariq Mehmood Chughtai gave them patient hearing and underlined the need of holding Inter-faith dialogues in religiously dominated areas.Mr Chugtai assured to support RMNP initiative to hold these type of sessions in concerned press clubs of the areas.
