ISLAMABAD — Three television channels forced off the air Monday were unblocked Tuesday, after almost 24 hours of ‘punishment.’
The cable operators, reportedly pressured by regulator PEMRA, had blocked Abb Takk, Capital, and 24 News for extensively covering PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz’s recent presser and her rally on Sunday.
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) and National Press Club held a protest against the illegal closure of the channels.
PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and Ahsan Iqbal also joined the protesters.
In Lahore, several journalists unions called off their planned protest after the channels hit the airwaves again.
