New chairman ITNE appointed/PFUJ demand honoured
Islamabad:Government of Pakistan has appointed Justice Rauf Shiekh as Chairman Implementation Tribunal For Newspaper Employees (ITNE). It was major demand by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, a delegation of PFUJ and APNC met Federal Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid on June 5, 2014 in which appointment of Chairman ITNE and Chairman 8th wage board awards were asked. A spokesperson for the Federal Government has said that the present government is committed to resolve all the issues faced by the media workers and the demands are addressed on priority basis. He said there is considerable progress towards meeting the demands put forth by the representative bodies i.e. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC). “The demand for the appointment of Chairman Wage Board is accomplished as Justice (R) Raza Khan has been notified (1/22/2014-E-6 dated 5th June, 2014) on the post”, added the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said this after delegation comprising Mr. Afzal Butt, President PFUJ, Mr Ikram Bokhari, Secretary General APNEC, Mr. Bilal Dar, Secretary RIUJ, Mr. Tariq Ch. Secretary National Press Club held a meeting with Senator Parvaiz Rashid, Minister for Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage here at the ministry. Mr. Shamsul Islam Naz, Mr. Qurban Satti and Mr. Nasir Hashmi were also included in the delegation.
> The spokesperson further said that the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage has made it compulsory for all publications to enroll their employees with Employees Old Benefit Institute (EOBI) for mandatory insurance of all employees. This positive step has widely been lauded by all associations and bodies working for the welfare of media workers.
“A summary for appointment of chairman Implementation Tribunal for Newspapers Employees (ITNE) has already been sent to the Prime Minister and a decision in this regard would be announced in the next 48 hours”, added the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that the provincial Government of Punjab has already established an endowment fund for the welfare of journalistic community. The media persons who are injured while performing their professional duties would be helped through this fund. Educational, marriages and other expenses for children and families of the martyred journalists would also be met through this fund. The spokesperson concluded that the Government would take all possible steps for the welfare and well being of media workers.
