Chairman PEMRA sacked
ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Sunday terminated the services of Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chaudhry Rashid, Business92 reported.
The President took the decision on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to declare Chairman PEMRA’s appointment as ab-initio void, illegal and in violation of the Supreme Court’s guidelines and order in cases of Acting Chairman PEMRA and Khawaja Asif vs State, according to a press statement issued from the Aiwan-e-Sadr here.
The appointment of Chaudhry Rashid, as per requirement, was neither open nor transparent.
Chaudhry Rashid, being Secretary Information and serving government employee had initiated a summary proposing himself as candidate of chairman PEMRA without carrying out open and transparent process for appointment, the statement added.
