Afghan Govt releases Pakistani Journalist Faizullah Khan

KABUL: The imprisoned Karachi based Pakistan journalist in Afghanistan Faizullah Khan has been released by the Afghan government. Pakistan’s embassy in Afghanistan has confirmed the release of Faizullah Khan. He was arrested in April when he crossed the Pak-Afghan border while reporting from Tribal Areas. An Afghan court has sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has congratulated the family of Faizullah on his release. He said the Government believes in freedom of media. He said they are grateful of the Afghan Government for the release of Faizullah. The Minister said the Government will extend every possible cooperation to the journalists for performing their duties. He appreciated the role of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and media for the release of Faizullah.RMNP Coordinator Kyber Pakhtunkhwa Habibullah Khan informed that Pakistani journalist Faizullah is expected to return home before Eid ul Azha.Meanwhile President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Khan Sehar said that following protest by the journalist community in Pakistan, Islamabad took up the issue with Kabul through diplomatic channels for the release of the journalist.International journalist organizations had also expressed concerns over the arrest of Faizullah, who is associated with a Karachi-based private TV channel.ARY News.He hailed Afghan government”s decision.
