WPFD Message from President Commonwealth Journalists Association
Dear Ehsan
I am writing to congratulate the Rural Media Network Pakistan and the Daily Nawa-I-AhmedpurSharqia for organising your World Press Freedom Day roundtable entitled ” Safety of Journalists Working in Hostile Environment in Rural Pakistan.”
The RMNP is a shining light illuminating the pain and suffering so many journalists experience as they go about their work.
Sadly, this is not a problem exclusive to Pakistan. Hostile environments, in numerous forms, exist for journalists throughout the world and continue to worsen.
However, I know that the situation for Pakistani journalists is often dangerous and, sadly, too often fatal.
I wish you well and leave you with this quote from the famous American human right activist Margaret Mead:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
I believe this is true. Your group may be small but your potential is great.
Good luck with your round table and may your efforts bring a safer and more peaceful life to the Pakistan journalists’ community.
Best wishes.
CHRIS COBB
