RMNP welcomes the formation of the National Commission for the Protection of Journalists
The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) has welcomed the formation of the National Commission, calling it “a positive and long-awaited step toward institutionalising journalist safety in Pakistan.”
RMNP leadership stated that the inclusion of working journalists from diverse regions will ensure that cases from small towns, rural districts, and underserved areas receive timely attention.
Background
RMNP has consistently advocated for the protection of rural journalists, who often work in high-risk environments without access to legal or organisational support. The establishment of this National Commission provides an opportunity for improved reporting, documentation, and response mechanisms.
RMNP’s Continued Commitment
RMNP reaffirmed its commitment to:
Providing safety training for rural journalists
Monitoring violations against media professionals
Engaging with national and international stakeholders to promote press freedom
RMNP expressed hope that the newly formed Commission will function with transparency, independence, and urgency in addressing cases involving media professionals across Pakistan.
