RMNP plans seminar for World Press Freedom Day

Chanigoth ( Rural Pakistan) The press freedom organization, Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP), in collaboration with rural Daily Nawai-AhmedpurSharqia and Pakistan’s National Press Union has arranged a seminar on World Press Freedom Day, on May 3, 2014, in Union Council Chanigoth, Bahawalpur district.

The seminar topic is “Media Freedom for a Better Future”. This is a long tradition of the RMNP to hold similar events to mark World Press Freedom Day every year.

Ehsan Ahmed Sehar, President RMNP will present the Annual Press Freedom Report. This report is usually a comprehensive document, covering the state of media freedom in Pakistan, including killings of journalists in different parts of the country during the previous year.

Message from the Director General of UNESCO  WPFD 2014 CHANI GOTHwill be read at the occasion and copies of the messages of other international media organizations will be distributed among the participants.

Professor Dr Sajjad Ahmed Paracha of Media Studies Department Islamia University Bahawalpur will deliver the key note address. Academics, Mass Media teachers, regional heads of mainstream political parties and senior journalists of electronic and print media will also address the selected gathering.

The rural Daily “Nawai-AhmedpurSharqia will bring out a special edition on the eve of World Press Freedom Day. Participants will observe one minute of silence to remember those journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The speakers and participants will discuss impunity issues.Mazhar Rasheed will conduct the discussion.

The seminar will thoroughly debate the circumstances which let the killers go unpunished, and formulate different recommendations to trace the criminals who want to curb the media freedom and enforce their will through the barrel of a gun.

Start time for the WPFD Seminar is 4.00 PM. Two cash awards will be given to two press freedom advocates in the seminar .A dinner has also been arranged for the participants
