Punjab Police register first case of fake news against Ali Raza under PECA Act in Okara

Okara: Punjab Police have registered a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes against a man for allegedly spreading fake news about a robbery.
According to reports , Okara’s B-Division Police Station has registered an FIR against one Ali Raza under Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016-20 and 509 PPC, who allegedly shared news about a robbery in a WhatsApp group without verification. The news shared in the WhatsApp group said that 10/11 men snatched money from some people including women at gunpoint during a robbery at a private hotel. The WhatsApp user Ali Raza shared this news in a group titled City Okara. Police reached the scene to verify the news, but found no such thing there.
In a video message later, the hotel owner too denied any such incident happened on premises and declared the post shared in the WhatsApp as fake news.
Police have warned the social media users and representatives of the media organization against sharing anything without verify it.
