PFUJ countrywide protest against attacks on tV channels and media houses in karachi

On the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the community throughout the country on Tuesday held demonstrations and rallies in order to protest against attack on offices of AAJ TV, Business Recorder, Waqt TV and Daily Nawa-e-Waqt Media Group in Karachi.

Giving the government an ultimatum, PFUJ President Rana Muhammad Azeem and Secretary General Amin Yousuf demanded that those responsible for the attack should be arrested within the next 48 hours. They added that if they were not caught in the given period of time, journalists would hold country-wide rallies.

Armed assailants riding motorbikes had on Monday threw two home-made bombs at the entrance to the two Media Houses buildings.

In Lahore, the journalists gathered at Cheering Cross in front of the Punjab Assembly to condemn the attack on media group. Addressing the participants, PFUJ President said the government had failed to give protection to media in the country.

“The attack on three media houses is shameful act of miscreants and failure of Sindh and Federal Government,” Rana Azeem added.

He said if the assailants would not be arrested then the journalists would give call for sit-ins and boycott of government press coverage.

Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) Secretary Amir Sohail said that such attack could never terrorize the journalist community.

The journalist also gathered outside the Karachi Press Club to condemn this terrorists’ activity.

PFUJ Secretary General Amin Yousuf, PFUJ , Member Executive Council FEC Syed Hasan Abbas, Mushtaq Sarki Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) President G.M Jamali, KUJ Secretary Wajid Raza Isfahani, President Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Faran and Secretary Aamir Latif, Pakistan Association of Press Photographers, traders, lawyers, representatives of all political parties also attended the protest.

Addressing with the protestors, Amin Yousuf demanded the provision of security to the journalists and media offices. He also demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the terrorist attack within 48 hours.

The journalists also staged protest demonstrations in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Quetta, Peshawar, Bahawalpur, Abbotabad, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Dera Bugti, Hub, Mirpur Khas, Shikarpur ,Khusdar, Khairpur, D I Khan,Tando Adam, Khyber Pakhtoon Khaw and Islamabad.
