Pakistan reporting on women initiative

The Nation Pakistan –   AhmedpurEast

Former Bahawalpur District Council member and social activist Aasia Rasheed said that due to the non-existence of women journalists in rural areas and small cities, dozens of incidents of violence against rural women were not reported.
She said this while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony following a three-day ‘Women Journalism Training Workshop’ organised by the Rural Media Network Pakistan in collaboration with Unesco.
The idea as put forward to launch a project to establish a network of women contributors to gather, document and monitor hidden incidents of violence against women in rural Pakistan by using internet, which opens new possibilities for exercising freedom of expression.
The collected information would then be passed to local, national media, human rights groups, women rights organizations and international professional organisations to keep them informed of threats.
