Ms Sadia Kamal receives RMNP Best Female Journalist Award

Dr Ms Sadia Kamal senior vice president National Press Club Islamabad  having rural background received RMNP first “Best Female Journalist  Cash Award” on the eve of World Press Freedom Day organised by the Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) in collaboration with UNESCO on 3rd May,2019 in the premises of Punjab college AhmedpurEast.Mayor city Malik Usman Rasheed Bobak and President  RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar presented her ” RMNP Best Female Journalist Award” in the ceremony which was jointly chaired by Professor Shehzad Ahmed Khan and Chairman Media Studies Department Islamia University Bahawalpur Dr Sajjad Paracha. Regional leaders of mainstream political parties PTI,PPP,PML(N),female activists of various political parties, notables, and heads of different rural press clubs were also present on this occasion.

President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar while addressing the ceremony said that one Pakistani journalist was shot dead on 30th April this year in Dera Ismael Khan of KP province, rising death toll of slain Pakistani journalists  to 37  who  were killed  during last five years. He criticised the government who despite the assurances still not tabled “Journalists Protection Bill” in the parliament. He stated that  Pakistan dropped down another 3 places in World Press Freedom Index  this year which is an alarming situation for Pakistani media.

President RMNP underlined the need to raise the status of working women in urban oriented media by giving them decision making positions and to ratify the glaring absence of female rural journalists among the thousands of district correspondents. He paid rich tributes to Dr. Sadia Kamal who started journalistic work in rural Pakistan and later shifted to federal capital Islamabad where she remained associated with Seraiki language TV channel and other media outlets. This year she elected as vice president National Press Club Islamabad, which is an honour for  the journalists of Bahawalpur district, he concluded.

Professor Shehzad Ahmed Khan, Professor Dr Sajjad Paracha , Director Punjab college Muhammad Suleman Farooqi  and other speakers congratulated Dr Sadia Kamal for her 13 years journalistic services in both rural and urban journalism and congratulated  her winning RMNP first ” Best Female Journalist Award”

Dr.Sadia Kamal thanked RMNP for selecting her for this prestigious award and disclosed that she was not informed about this award. On the invitation of President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar,she travelled to rural Pakistan just to join her colleagues in their World Press Freedom Day celebrations while a big event to mark the WPFD was also  scheduled in National Press Club Islamabad on 3rd May. She hoped that the RMNP would expand its activities in near future to encourage female  journalists in both rural and urban areas.
