Mir Shakil appears in court for allegedly running fake news
KARACHI – Jang Group owner Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman appeared before the Additional District and Sessions Judge South Hifzur Rahman on Saturday in a case filed by BOL News investigative journalist Asad Kharal.
The counsel for Mir Ibrahim, owner of the group’s television channel Geo News sought exemption of his client from court appearance stating he was not in the country.
The court accepted the request and postponed the hearing until February 23.
Kharal claims the accused carried fake news against him after he exposed the corruption of Mir Shakil’s relative Jahangir Siddiqui on a news channel.
The news against the journalist was published in Jang and The News and aired on Geo, using the name of the court falsely, Kharal claims.
Kharal says that Shakil and Ibrahim had attempted to harm his reputation to please their relative.
