Journalists condemn lawsuit against Sar-e-Aam
KARACHI/LAHORE: Journalist Unions and prominent media men on Thursday condemned the lawsuit filed against ARY News investigative journalism program ‘Sar-e-Aam’, ARY News reported.
Amongst the important messages, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Rana Azeem said that ARY News is being punished for showing the truth.
Commenting on GM Railways press conference, Rana Azeem said that a lawsuit would not have been filed if the investigative report was aired on some other channel as government’s attitude is biased towards ARY News.
President of Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ), Irfan Saeed lauded the Sar-e-Aam team for their work by saying that their work is laudable and it is the Railways Minister who should apologise.
Journalist fraternity announced countrywide protest if the lawsuit against ‘Sar-e-Aam’ team is not taken back.
Background
Earlier, ARY News program, Sar-e-Aam team exposed offensive negligence by railways employees as it dispatched some weapons and explosives to Lahore via railways, which were successfully delivered.
Upon the delivery of these goods, Sar-e-Aam team informed railways authorities of this serious negligence by the employees, yet the authorities registered a case against the media team itself which carried out the sting operation to open the eyes of some higher-ups of the Pakistan Railways.
The case was registered over the smuggling of arms and illegal items.
