Journalist Yaqoob Shehzad shot dead in Hafizabad,Punjab

President RMNP condemns the killings of two journalists  in Hafizabad and arrest of an editor of national English daily in Lahore

Hafizabad: Unknown armed persons shot dead Yaqoob Shehzad Chairman Press Club Hafizabad on Sunday,October 5, 2014.He was father of four children and associated with private TV Channel Express News. According to initial report, unknown attackers shot dead Yaqoob Shehzad while he was sitting in the office of his friend situated at Saghar road. Eyewitnesses informed that gunmen arrived at the office and opened indiscriminate firing, which claimed his life. Reportedly Shehzad was shot in the head three  times. Police have registered the case and started the investigations. Punjab Chief Minister has ordered the arrest of all assailants without any delay. Earlier reports, Nadeem Hyder , a correspondent for daily Dunya, was shot dead by two unknown assailants in Kaliki Mandi area of Hafizabad on Friday, October 3. The killers fled away from the scene. Local police have registered the case and begun an investigation. According to RMNP monitoring, nine journalists and five media workers lost their lives up 5th October 2014.President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar stated that Pakistan is one of the deadliest countries in world and attacks on journalists are increasing day by day and government seems failed in protecting the lives of journalists despite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s announcements and promises. He strongly condemned the deaths of two journalists Yaqoob Shehzad and Nadeem Haider within three days in Hafizabad district of Punjab and arrest of Editor-in-Chief of national English Daily The Frontier Post  Rehmat Shah Afridi in Lahore on October 7,2014 under Section so6 PPC by Civil Lines police on the report of his estranged son Jalil Khan Afridi..He demanded the immediate release of Rehmat Shah Afridi and expressed his condolences with both slain journalists families. President RMNP also demanded of government to pay Rs one million as compensation to both slain journalists Yaqoob Shehzad and Nadeem Haider heirs immediately.
