RMNP Condemns Brutal Killing; Second Journalist Murdered in Sindh Within Two Weeks

Mirpur Mathelo (Ghotki District), October 8, 2025: Tufail Rind, General Secretary of the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club, was shot dead in an armed attack today, while his 10-year-old niece, Rina, who was accompanying him, tragically lost her life due to trauma following the incident.

According to police sources, Rind was on his way to drop children at school when unidentified assailants opened fire on him on Jirwar Road near Masoo Wah in Mirpur Mathelo. He was killed on the spot, and his body was shifted to DHQ Hospital, Mirpur Mathelo.

Police stated that Rina, who was riding with her uncle, became severely frightened after witnessing the shooting and could not survive the emotional shock.

Two Suspects Arrested
SSP Ghotki confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with Rind’s murder. He added that the slain journalist had been involved in a longstanding dispute with members of his own community for the past four years, during which two people had already been killed.
“This was the third murder linked to the same dispute,” the SSP said, assuring that “all those involved in the murder of journalist Tufail Rind will be arrested.”

RMNP Condemnation
The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of journalist Tufail Rind, describing it as another tragic example of the growing insecurity faced by journalists in Pakistan.
“The incidents of attacks, threats, kidnappings, and brutal killings of journalists across the country are clear evidence of the complete failure and indifference of the government and administration,” the RMNP statement declared.

The statement further noted that Rind is the second journalist killed in Sindh province within two weeks, following the murder of Imtiaz Mir. RMNP expressed grave concern that Rind’s alleged killer had shared a confessional video, calling it “deeply alarming and reflective of impunity.”

Official Response
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed grief over the killing, stating that attacks on journalists are attacks on press freedom. He directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report on the incident.
