Malkwal: A young journalist identified as Abid Hussein alias Abidi was shot dead last night in Malkwal city of Bahauddin district of Punjab province .He was correspondent of daily Juram-o-Saza Lahore who left behind a widow,two daughters and a son.According to details,slain journalist had received a telephone call from Malkwal Police Station official phone at 12.55 A.M on 27th September 2020, that one Bali S/O Lal Hussein filed an application against him so he along with his brother Asif and another person Naveed went to Police Station to satisfy concerned police officer about fake charges levelled against him.
After visiting police station, journalist Abid Hussein ,his brother and relative were going back to their homes on two motorbikes,when they reached near railway ground at 1.30 A.M,four armed motorcyclists intercepted them.Two armed assailants fired with four rounds of two pistols on journalist for writing news stories . Abid Hussein fell on the ground and assailants sped away from the scene. Abid Hussein was removed to THQ hospital Malakwal where he was given medical aid and referred to district head quarter hospital Mandi Bahauddin in critical condition. Abid Hussein was being shifted to DHQ hospital Mandi Bahauddin in ambulance when he succumbed to his injuries.His dead body was handed over to his heirs after autopsy in local hospital. His funeral was attended by a large number of citizens and journalists.Meanwhile Malkwal Police Station have registered a murder case against four unknown assailants, but no arrest has been made so far. A senior journalist hailing from Mandi Bahauddin district told RMNP that slain journalist Abid Hussein had written stories against ruling party member Punjab assembly and his kitchen cabinet.
President RMNP Ehsan Ahmed Sehar has condemned the brutal murder of journalist Abid Hussein Abidi and demanded the immediate arrest of all four assailants.He urged Punjab Chief Minister to pay compensation to the bereaved family of the slain journalist Abid Hussein alias Abidi who had been killed in the line of duty.
The number of killings journalists in Pakistan this year have touched the mark of nine this year , as per monitoring of the Rural Media Network Pakistan.
