Govt making all-out efforts to get Faizullah released, SHC told
KARACHI: The federal government was taking all best efforts for release of Pakistani journalist Faizullah Khan, who is detained in Afghanistan, standing counsel told Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday.
The court was hearing the petition of Sania Faizullah, a spouse of Karachi based journalist Faizullah Khan who is missing since April 22 from tribal areas while performing his professional duties.
Petitioner submitted that her spouse, who is working as senior reporter in ARY TV channel, went to tribal areas for professional assignment but did not return. She said that she came to know through TV administration that Faizullah Khan is now detained by the Afghan intelligence agencies.
She submitted that her spouse was a professional journalist who is engaged in the profession for last 10 years. She prayed court to direct federal government to take efforts for recovery and safe return of her spouse.
The court was informed by the petitioner counsel Mohammad Farooq that Afghanistan’s local court has sentenced four years in prison to Faizullah Khan for entering into Afghanistan without any travelling documents and produced newspapers reports. The standing counsel submitted that federal government was taking all best efforts and going to file appeal before the High Court of Nangarhar in Afghanistan for release of Faizullah Khan. He sought time to submit relevant documents along with the memo of the appeal filed on next date of hearing.
SHC’s division bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar directed the federal law officer to file the comments regarding release of petitioner’s spouse. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for July 22.
