FIA registers cases against 49 journalists and social media activists
ISLAMABAD—The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered cases against 49 social media activists and journalists for defaming national institutions.
The cases fall under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
The journalists are Matiullah Jan, Umer Cheema, Asad Toor, Murtaza Solangi, Azaz Syed, Ammar Masood, and Bilal Farooqi.
In a tweet, Mubashir Zaidi termed it the biggest crackdown against journalists.
Murtaza Solangi tweeted that he would face the case. “Bring it ON. We are ready.”
Quoting FIA, Dawn News TV said notices were being issued to these social media activists and journalists.
