Ehsan Ahmed Sehar Attends Ahmedpur Union of Journalists Workers Core Committee Meeting as Patron-in-Chief
Ahmedpur East: A meeting of the Core Committee of the Ahmedpur Union of Journalists (Workers) was held on December 31, 2025, with Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) President Ehsan Ahmed Sehar attending in his capacity as Patron-in-Chief.
The meeting reviewed organisational matters and discussed initiatives aimed at strengthening professional journalism and promoting community-based reporting in the region. Members exchanged views on challenges faced by journalists and explored collaborative activities to encourage young writers and media professionals.
During the meeting, the Core Committee approved the organisation of an annual essay competition in collaboration with Punjab College, Ahmedpur Sharqia. The competition will be open to journalists and students, with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 for the winner. The initiative is intended to foster research, analytical writing, and awareness of social issues among emerging journalists.
A major decision taken at the meeting was the approval of the “Mazhar Rasheed Best Reporting Community Award 2026.” On the proposal of Patron-in-Chief Ehsan Ahmed Sehar, the committee unanimously decided to confer the award on Irshad Ahmed Shad in recognition of his services to the journalists’ community, particularly his role in organising the first Journalists Alliance Convention held in October 2025 at Al-Abbas Marriage Hall, Uch Sharif.
The meeting further resolved that the Mazhar Rasheed Best Reporting Community Award will be organised and presented in collaboration with Daily Nawa-i-Ahmedpur Sharqia. The local daily will play an active institutional role in supporting, publicising, and documenting the award on an annual basis. The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between working journalists and print media institutions while promoting standards of responsible and community-focused reporting in South Punjab.
Participants noted that Daily Nawa-i-Ahmedpur Sharqia has consistently contributed to highlighting journalists’ issues and local media activities, and its association with the Mazhar Rasheed Award will help enhance the award’s credibility and outreach.
The meeting was attended by Patron Mohammad Suleman Farooqi, President Syed Sarfraz Hussain Zaidi,General Secretary Hameedullah Khan Aziz, Chairman Executive Committee Ahmed Ali Chaudhry, Vice President Malik Rashad Mahmood Chandar, Additional General Secretary Shah Wali Khan, along with other core committee members.
The decisions taken at the meeting reflect a shared commitment by the Ahmedpur Union of Journalists, RMNP, and Daily Nawa-i-Ahmedpur Sharqia to promote journalistic excellence, encourage community engagement, and recognise outstanding contributions in the field of reporting.
