Information Minister Assures CPNE of Action on ABC, Press Registration and Newspaper Dues
Lunch Hosted in Honour of CPNE; Detailed Discussion Held on Key Issues of the Newspaper Industry
Islamabad (Press Release) – Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar hosted a lunch yesterday in honour of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), during which key issues facing the newspaper industry were discussed in detail.
The meeting covered matters related to the ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation), press registration, and the payment of dues owed to newspapers.
Following the detailed discussion, the Information Minister assured the delegation that work on the ABC issue is ongoing and that a draft will soon be shared with all relevant stakeholders. Further progress will be made after receiving their proposals and consultation.
Regarding the payment of newspaper dues, the Minister assured the delegation that, God willing, the share of print media has been increased in the payment received in recent days, and the process of disbursing this amount will begin shortly.
He further stated that print media’s share in funds to be received in the future will also be increased in the coming quarter.
The Information Minister assured that a process has been initiated to resolve pending matters and dues. Letters are being sent to the relevant government departments, asking them to provide details of dues owed to newspapers and clear their outstanding payments. Details of dues are also being sought from the concerned institutions, and further action will be taken once these are received.
In addition, the CPNE delegation raised the issue of clearing old dues owed to newspapers and increasing advertisement rates, on which the Information Minister assured them of positive progress. The CPNE welcomed the Minister’s assurances and the steps taken to resolve the problems of the newspaper industry.
The CPNE delegation included Secretary General Ghulam Nabi Chandio, former Secretary General Ijaz ul Haq, Senior Vice President Ayaz Khan, Deputy Secretary General Tanveer Shaukat, Finance Secretary Arif Baloch, Vice Presidents Anwar Sajidi, Mian Hassan Ahmed and Shakeel Tarabi, Joint Secretaries Tahir Farooq and Yahya Sadozai, and senior members Irshad Arif and Sardar Khan Niazi.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar was accompanied by Federal Information Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and PIO Ms. Raisa Adil.
