Anchorperson Imtiaz Mir shot in Karachi, dies in hospital
Karachi — TV Channel Metro 1 News anchorperson Imtiaz Mir, who was critically injured in a gun attack in Karachi’s Malir area last week, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, according to family and reports.
Mir was going to home along with his elder brother, Mohammed Salih, when six assailants on two motorcycles intercepted their vehicle and opened fire. Both brothers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Liaquat National Hospital for treatment.
His brother Riaz Ali, who filed the complaint, confirmed that Mir passed away during treatment late Sunday night. Saudabad Police Station House Officer (SHO) Ateequr Rehman also confirmed the journalist’s death and said a case had been registered against a man and his sons.
“The incident was motivated by a land dispute in the town of Thul in Jacobabad,” the SHO stated. He added that although a little-known group claimed responsibility for the shooting, its claim appeared doubtful.
