KARACHI: A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the mysterious death of journalist Khawar Hussain in Sanghar. The committee will submit its report to the Sindh Home Department within seven days.
The committee will be headed by Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan, while its members include DIG Irfan Baloch and SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch. Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar stated that the inquiry committee will review all aspects of the mysterious death and present its findings to the Sindh Home Department within seven days. He further said that the committee’s official notification will be issued after the registration of the case.
Earlier, police had stated that, based on evidence and investigation so far, Khawar Hussain’s death appeared to be a suicide. According to police, it seems that Khawar shot himself with his own licensed pistol; the bullet wound to his head matches his weapon.
Police officials added that fingerprints, CCTV footage, and other evidence have been collected. CCTV footage shows Khawar entering and leaving a restaurant and then sitting in his car. Officials said that before his death, Khawar visited the restaurant twice, and two eyewitnesses also saw him going in and out of the restaurant from his vehicle.
Police confirmed that the forensic analysis of Khawar Hussain’s mobile phone is being carried out. The civil surgeon has also indicated that the evidence points towards suicide.
It may be recalled that the body of Karachi-based journalist Khawar Hussain was found a day earlier on Hyderabad Road in Sanghar.
Meanwhile Chairperson Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Workers Dr Sadia Kamal quoted deceased journalist’s widow Dr’ Shazia Baloch saying that her husband had been murdered .
