Director Doha Centre for Media Freedom Qatar Message for World Press Freedom Day, May 3 , 2011

On the occasion of the 3d of May, World Press Freedom Day, the Doha Centre for Media Freedom salutes the Rural Media Network Pakistan. The RMNP plays a crucial role in defending press freedom and freedom of expression in rural Pakistan through organizing training workshops, and publishing a website and newsletter.
Pakistani journalists, like the journalists in many Arab countries, face intimation, all kind of restrictions and sometimes persecution. The Doha Centre for Media Freedom is committed to support journalists and media organizations who are victim of press freedom violations. “21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers” is the theme of World Press Freedom Day 2011. In Doha we are celebrating this day by organizing a round table on the growing role of internet, the emergence of new media and dramatic rise in social networking in the Arab uprising. We are also focusing on safety issues journalists, cameramen and photographers are facing.

On the 3d of May we feel united with our colleagues in Pakistan who are sacrificing so much to exercise their journalistic profession in order to get the truth out and inform the people.
